The short version

Convoy is for driving with friends. It uses your location to give directions and, only during a trip, to show the people in your convoy where you are. There are no ads, no tracking, and your data is never sold.

Your location

Convoy uses your location while the app is open, and in the background only while a trip is running. During a trip, your position, speed, and route are shared with the members of that convoy and nobody else. Sharing stops when you arrive or end the trip, and Ghost Mode hides you anytime. Your drive history (routes, times, and distances) is kept only on this iPhone.

Your account (optional)

If you sign in (with Apple or Google), Convoy uses Google Firebase to store your account. With Google, Firebase also keeps the email address of your Google account, used only to sign you in. Firebase stores your username, the profile you show friends (name, avatar, car, hometown, title, and photo if you add one), your friends and friend requests, convoy invites, and how you said you found Convoy. Live trips are relayed through Firebase so convoy members can see each other; that data is temporary and is removed when the convoy closes (trips left behind, for example if the app was closed mid-trip, are cleared out later). Without an account, none of this leaves your phone.

Maps, search, and routes

Maps, place search, and directions come from Apple MapKit. Apple receives your searches and locations to answer them, under Apple's privacy policy.

Speed limits, lanes, and cameras

To show speed limits, lane guidance, and camera locations, Convoy sends the shape of your route (or the area around you) to public OpenStreetMap Overpass servers. Nothing else about you is sent with it.

Car models

When you add your car, the make and year you pick are sent to the U.S. NHTSA vPIC database to list matching models.

Voice

Convoy's natural voice (Kokoro) runs entirely on your iPhone. If you pick an extra Convoy voice, it's downloaded once from Hugging Face. What's spoken is never sent anywhere.

Notifications

Convoy invites, reactions, and the weekly recap are local notifications created on your phone.

Deleting your data

Settings → Delete All Data on This Phone erases your drives, places, friends list, profile, titles, and settings from this iPhone. To delete your account and everything stored for it on Convoy's servers, use Settings → Delete Account. Deleting the app also removes everything stored on the phone.
